Spring has sprung and the flowers here in the Pacific Northwest are in full bloom…along with allergies for many people! We are long past the New Year’s Resolutions of January, often when we make those goals to start a new reading plan for the Bible or commit to a daily quiet time with the Lord. Some of you may be thriving in your new goals and loving The Bible Recap or you’ve noticed how you’ve grown in your relationship with God. Keep at it and don’t stop! It’s exciting when you’ve discovered what works for you or made notable progress in spiritual disciplines you’ve been working on.
But what if that’s not your story? You may have tried to read the Bible in a year, but now it’s April and you never got past Leviticus. Or you bought a new prayer journal, with a goal to write in it every week and now it sits with only three pages filled in. Do you just give up? No!!! Part of the journey is figuring out what works for you and if something isn’t working, you have the freedom to try something new. You may have discovered what doesn’t work for you, but there’s many different strategies you can try to renew your time in God’s Word and your prayer life.
Not everyone is a morning person or loves journaling. You can take your Bible with you to your child's practice while you're waiting for them. Open God’s Word during your lunch break or use your Bible app while sitting in the carpool line. Every moment you spend with the Living God through His Word or in your prayers to Him is worth it! If you don’t know where to start, choose a shorter book of the Bible and read one chapter (or a few verses) each day.
As you look around at the beautiful Spring flowers or notice the new life around you, remember to nurture that new life within you that you received through Christ. Spend time with Him! Listen to the Holy Spirit as He speaks through His Word. Don’t give up! Keep moving forward and keep growing in your relationship with Him. What’s one new thing you can try today to engage in God’s Word?
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
